State Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick’s office delivered a subpoena on Dec. 1 to the Board of Education demanding it provide an explanation for the former superintendent’s resignation and supplemental documents. The district said it will turn over all documents by the end of the week.

Delaney, a career educator, stepped into the role just weeks before the start of the school year after former Superintendent Mike Dominguez's unplanned departure from the district.

Interim Superintendent Mark Delaney said in an email to families on Wednesday that school officials conducted an investigation in partnership with police and found evidence that a district custodian is responsible for the graffiti.

A spokesperson for Missouri Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick’s office confirmed the office will be reviewing the nearly $230,000 payout to former Superintendent Mike Dominguez, who resigned from the district weeks before the start of the school year.

School board President Steven Blair said in a statement that Mike Dominguez had resigned “to pursue opportunities that better align with the current needs of his family."

Fields currently serves as the assistant superintendent of human resources for the Kirkwood School District. He will start his new role on July 1.
