Statement of Editorial Integrity
St. Louis Public Radio’s mission is to inform and provide a deeper understanding and appreciation of events, ideas and cultures for a more inspired and engaged public.
St. Louis Public Radio is the NPR member station in St. Louis. We are a daily journalism operation covering regional news—everything from the arts to politics to the environment. We produce newscasts, a daily talk show, multimedia stories on our website, podcasts, local music broadcasts, and events for the community that align with the station’s mission.
St. Louis Public Radio is a listener-supported service of the University of Missouri-St. Louis. St. Louis Public Radio and UMSL have a long history of shared service in educating the community and mutual support.
St. Louis Public Radio retains full authority over editorial content to protect the best journalistic and business interests of our organization. We maintain a firewall between news coverage decisions and sources of all revenue. Acceptance of financial support does not constitute implied or actual endorsement of donors or their products, services or opinions.
We accept gifts, grants and sponsorships from individuals and organizations for the general support of our activities, but our news judgments are made independently and not on the basis of donor support.
Likewise, even though the University of Missouri System Board of Curators owns our FCC license, we maintain editorial independence of our content. This is in alignment with UMSL’s foundational principle of academic independence upon which the University of Missouri system is founded.
The support we receive from the University of Missouri-St. Louis does not influence our editorial content or news coverage.
Our organization may consider donations to support the coverage of particular topics, but we maintain editorial control of the coverage. We will cede no right of review or influence of editorial content, nor of unauthorized distribution of editorial content.
We will accept anonymous donations for general support under the understanding with those donors that the gifts conform to the safeguards we have put in place to ensure St. Louis Public Radio’s editorial integrity.
