The Illinois Department of Transportation's latest effort on the decades-long project to connect the St. Louis region to southern Illinois, called the Southwest Connector, starts with collecting public feedback.

If the weather cooperates, the 2-lane bridge will close at 9 p.m. Friday and reopen at 5 a.m. Monday.

The Illinois Department of Transportation used a full closure during the second phase of its I-255 rehab in Cahokia Heights and Sauget, which wrapped up this past weekend.

Initially, the Illinois Department of Transportation anticipated to finish the construction in Cahokia Heights and Sauget by the end of July.

The north and eastbound lanes of Interstate 55 and Interstate 70 between state Highways 157 and 159 will close Friday and are anticipated to reopen at the end of the month.

Forecasters predict the snow will fall until midnight and 3 a.m., tapering off first in the west and later in the east.

The Illinois Department of Transportation expects the 3.5-mile section between Illinois 15 and Illinois 157 in Cahokia Heights and Sauget to be closed until July 31.

Crews will resurface 3.5 miles of the roadway, repair bridges, add new lighting and make signing and drainage improvements between Illinois 15 and Illinois 157 in St. Clair County.
