The Missouri Department of Transportation is making its roadway alert system more customizable.
The Gateway Guide alerts travelers via email or text about road closures, lane closures, or traffic problems on particular roads.
The updated system lets users select specific sections of state roads or highways for their alerts. Users can also monitor routes based on the day of the week or time of day.
“It’s something [drivers] can use to get timely information without overwhelming themselves with all the alerts that they may not need at a given time,” MODOT spokesman Andrew Gates said. “We want folks to avoid congestion as much as possible. That keeps the roadways flowing better, that gets them home sooner.”
The Gateway Guide covers St. Louis City and County, as well as St.Charles, Franklin, and Jefferson Counties.
