Carbondale, Ill. – Two lawmakers want the federal building in Carbondale renamed in honor of the late Senator Paul Simon.
Congressman Jerry Costello and U.S. Senator Dick Durbin have both filed legislation; the building would be called the Paul Simon Federal Building. Simon died last month after heart surgery. He was 75.
Simon was a Democrat who was widely known for his bowties and plainspoken charm.
Costello says that renaming the building will be a fitting tribute for the region's favorite son.
