Stephen Sondheim was the musical mentor of Tony-nominated Broadway star Melissa Errico. In a sparkling evening of his sublime songs side by side by engaging stories of his craft and life, Erricoโs love and admiration for her friend and teacher is always up front.โErricoโs artistry is beyond superb. A lesson in interpretive genius, not to mention beautiful music making.โ - Opera NewsโMelissa Errico is the finest interpreter of Sondheim working in America today.โ - The New YorkerโSondheim Sublime is the best all-Sondheim album ever madeโฆ [sheโs] a nonpareil cabaret singerโฆshe's so sexy you won't believe your eyes and sings so beautifully you won't believe your ears and talks so charmingly you won't believe it's happening! โ - The Wall Street Journal (Guessing he was a little smitten. Ya think?)First known for her starring roles on Broadway, including My Fair Lady, High Society, White Christmas, Anna Karenina, Dracula and Les Misรฉrables, Errico began an enduring connection with Sondheim when he selected her to star as Dot in Sunday In The Park With George at The Kennedy Center. The interplay between dreams and reality has long fueled human imagination. Our personal ideas, hopes, dreams and nightmares work at the edges of our subconscious awareness often revealing inner dimensions of our lives. Movement is an ideal medium for both contemplation and expression of the lived experience at the liminal intersection of the oneiric and waking mind. Join the student choreographers of SLU Theatre & Dance for an evening of new and original dance artworks that bring dreamscapes into reality.
Directed by SLU Dance Program Coordinator Holly Seitz Marchant.
