St. Louis’s expansion Major League Soccer team opens its home schedule this weekend.

Despite chilling winds, thousands of fans packed CityPark, St. Louis' newest professional sports stadium and home to MLS expansion team St. Louis City SC, for an inaugural soccer match between City 2 and Bundesliga powerhouse Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

St. Louis City SC’s stadium in Downtown West features 22,500 seats, along with local eats and high-tech additions.

Since the Major Soccer League team won't hit the pitch until 2023, leaders decided to expand to esports as a strategy to garner more young and international fans. That plan starts with Hasib Zulfic, the team's new FIFA player.

The new designs highlight a surrounding entertainment district intended to draw in St. Louisans throughout the year.
