This article first appeared in the St. Louis Beacon, Sept. 3, 2011 - Wealthy financier Rex Sinquefield, Missouri's campaign donor extraordinare, ended this week with a politically balanced spreadsheet.
Sinquefield gave $15,000 on Friday to the House Republican Campaign Committee -- possibly another show of his support for state House Speaker Steve Tilley, R-Perryville, who previously has been a recipient of Sinquefield's largesse.
The gift comes on the eve of next week's special session, where the Republican-led House will consider an economic development package that contains a provision that Sinquefield dislikes: tax credits for the proposed China Hub.
Friday's donation is just three dollars below the $15,003 that the financier gave earlier this week -- in three daily increments of $5,001 each -- to St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley, a Democrat who also backs the Hub.
Meanwhile, Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon was arguably the week's biggest victor, donation-wise.
The governor collected $25,000 apiece from the United Autoworkers' national PAC (Tuesday), and Kansas City-based Cerner Corp., a firm that specializes in medical software (Friday).
