St. Louis, MO – Streets departments across the St. Louis region say they're mostly caught up after a two-day snowstorm dumped six inches of snow on area roads.
Crews from St. Louis city, county and the Missouri Department of Transportation are still working 12-hour shifts to finish the last of the plowing. But most main routes are just wet, and the secondary streets are getting cleared.
MoDOT spokeswoman Kara Price says motorists still need to drive carefully.
"Even though it was just a heavy accumulation of snow that we got last night, those snow-packed areas can be very, very slick," she said. "Just treat this as if you are driving in icy conditions."
St. Louis County plows are in the subdivisions, and city crews are clearing snow from the middle of major roads and checking on hilly areas. The city used about 4,000 tons of salt in 48 hours, said streets direct Todd Waelterman.
"We hadn't seen a storm where we were in the teens, the low 20s the entire storm in several years with that kind of snow," he said. All three departments say they have enough salt and chemicals for the rest of the winter.
