St. Louis, MO. – A new report says a $100 billion investment in clean energy technologies would create two million jobs in the U.S., including more than $43,000 in Missouri.
The National Resources Defense Council released the report Tuesday in more than 30 states. It was written by the Political Economy Research Institute at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.
Antonia Herzog with the NRDC says $100 billion investment in clean energy is comparable to the size of this year's federal stimulus package but would have a greater impact.
"This is the same amount of money and by using that amount of money as a green stimulus package you create first of all more short-term jobs and then you have multiple long-term benefits, which just increasing household consumption, frankly, doesn't do," Herzog said.
The report says the investment in clean energy would create four times as many jobs as if the same amount of money was spent within the oil industry.
