Collinsville, Ill. – Collinsville is trying to find $5 million to pave crumbling roads, after a city report said as many as one-fifth of the roads are in such bad shape they need repaving now.
There is a utility tax that pays for turning rural roads into permanent streets, but the city doesn't have the money to fix permanent existing streets.
City manager Bob Knabel says they're trying to figure out how to pay for the repairs. The report says 55 of the 300 streets in the city are in poor condition.
Collinsville spent $5 million on an eight-year repaving project that was completed in 2004.
