St. Louis – Boeing's plan to stop producing its C-17 cargo plane could cut about 1,800 jobs in Missouri.
Chicago-based Boeing says it will quit building the giant cargo plane because Congress has not approved plans to order more.
Boeing says it has enough orders to continue production through the middle of 2009.
The company says about half the job losses in Missouri would occur at independent supplier companies.
Boeing also employs about 900 C-17 workers at its plant in St. Louis.
The company says the C-17 program contributes about $669 million to Missouri's economy every year.
