St. Louis, MO. – In the wake of one of the closest Republican primaries in Missouri history, state auditor candidate Jack Jackson is requesting a recount.

Wednesday's unofficial tally put Platte County Auditor Sandra Thomas ahead of Jackson by just over 1,700 votes. Thomas declared victory while some precincts still had not been counted.

Her margin of victory is less than one percent. While not conceding the race, Jackson says he does not expect the recount to change the results:

"However, I think I owe it to the people of Missouri, my family and myself to ask for this recount," Jackson said. "And so I would like to make sure that out 610,000 votes, that 1,700 might still be mine."

Once the results are certified, Jackson has seven days to file a formal request for a recount.
