St. Louis, MO. – A candidate for Missouri state auditor says fiscal oversight should be an integral part of the Highway 40 overhaul and other big projects.
Early next year, crews will begin rebuilding a dozen miles of the road. The work is expected to cost more than a half billion dollars.
Republican state representative and auditor candidate Jack Jackson of Wildwood says most of the time financial oversight happens after the money has been spent.
"It is that fact that I would like to and will embed auditors in major programs so that we can be part of the team and spot things that are wasteful and abusive and not cost effective," Jackson said.
Jackson says his plan would not require the hiring of more auditors.
He says it's just a matter of rearranging staff.
