St. Louis, MO. – The state of Missouri has reached an agreement with SBC Communications requiring the telecom giant to honor the state's No Call List.
The agreement settles a lawsuit alleging that SBC made repeated calls to people who specifically asked the company not to call them again.
SBC will pay a $150,000 fine and has agreed to abide by the law. Previously, Sprint, MCI and AT&T also agreed not to contact those on the No Call List.
Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon says this action closes a loophole in the law.
"With adding the fourth of the major companies here today, this is a huge blow for freedom around the dinner table in Missouri," Nixon said.
In a written statement, SBC says it supports the goals of the No Call List and that it goes to great lengths to protect its customers' privacy and wishes.
