St. Louis, MO – The St. Louis School District says 42 people have applied to become the next superintendent.
About half have already been either a superintendent, a CEO, or a college president.
The district has hired a search firm to help in finding a superintendent. It will narrow the list to 10 or 12 candidates for the School Board to consider.
A consultant told the school board Monday night that 32 of the 42 applicants are men and 31 are minorities. Only five of them have a background that is not in education, and many of them have worked in large school districts.
The St. Louis Public Schools enroll about 37,000 children.
