Jefferson City, MO – Candidates for statewide and legislative races in Missouri began filing to be on the ballot this morning.

The Secretary of State's office in Jefferson City is handling forms for candidates of statewide (including Governor and U.S. Senator) and legislative (State Representative or State Senator) races.

Candidates who file today (Tuesday) will draw numbers to determine ballot placement. (The lower the number the higher up on the ballot)

Filing for local races also starts today, including for the job of St. Louis County Executive. Current County Councilman Kurt Odenwald has said he'll run, and so too has Ed Golterman, the man who spent years trying to save the Kiel Opera House.

Current County Executive Charlie Dooley announced this morning he has formed an exploratory committee to see whether he should run for the job he's had since Buzz Westfall died last year.

"I did not seek this position, nor had I ever considered being a candidate for it," Dooley said in a statement. "While I didn't ask for this job, I think I'm doing a good job."
