Page Extension Passes First Rush Hour Test

(file)

By Bill Raack, KWMU

St. Louis – Motorists who are used to traffic headaches between St. Louis and St. Charles Counties now have another option. The Page Avenue extension, or Highway 364, faced its first rush hours tests Monday.

Officials say the first day of traffic on the Veterans Memorial Bridge was a success.

The $348 million project is expected to relieve congestion on the other bridges over the Missouri River.

But Linda Wilson, with the state Department of Transportation, said it's only phase one.

"We've got two more phases that would continue the roadway west on highway 94 down to Highway N, and then follow Highway N out to a new interchange at Highway 40 and N," Wilson said. "Actually the Highway 40 and N interchange is under construction, we're just starting that now."

Wilson says MoDOT does not have any funding to complete the next Page extension phases at this time.
