St. Louis, MO – Representatives of Hazelwood's United Auto Workers union are in Michigan today, looking over a tentative contract agreement with the Ford Motor Company.
They're looking to see whether the four-year deal includes any provisions that might keep the 2,600 worker plant in Hazelwood open.
Ford has said it will close the plant, but published reports this week have suggested the company will put those plans on hold while it looks over a new set of tax incentives passed this spring by lawmakers.
Officials around the state have voiced worries about losing so many jobs; earlier this year Gov. Bob Holden set up a task force to find ways to convince the company to change its plans.
