Collinsville, Ill. – Illinois's newest official US Senate candidate was in Collinsville Monday asking Metro-East residents for their votes.
Comptroller Dan Hynes has long said he'd join the race for Senate, but he made it official Sunday.
The field in next year's race is already crowded and Hynes is not criticizing any of the seven other Democrats vying for the nomination. Instead he's focusing his comments on President Bush.
"The President's plan, these tax cuts, have created no new jobs. We need to get a plan in place that's going to create jobs for people, make sure people have health care coverage, improve our health care and education system for all Americans, and that's going to be the difference," Hynes said.
Current Senator Peter Fitzgerald is not running for re-election. Hynes has been comptroller since 1999.
