St. Louis, MO – More than twenty elected officials from the St. Louis area want Missouri Governor Bob Holden to order an audit of the St. Louis public schools. Democratic State Representative Yaphett El-Amin is questioning the schools' $90 million deficit and says State Auditor Claire McCaskill should take a close look at the system's finances. She said, "We're looking for the audit to show us the numbers -- the $90 million. Is that a truth of fallacy? We need to know as they move forward with the proposed layoffs that this something that must happen. And I think the audit would reflect that."
A spokesman for Governor Holden says he has discussed the matter with the auditor's office but has not yet made a decision.
