Flight Attendants OK Concessions; St. Louis Hit Hard

By M. Sepic, KWMU

St. Louis, Mo. – The Association of Professional Flight Attendants' board of directors has accepted a new agreement with American Airlines that they say will keep the company out of bankruptcy. But St. Louis-based workers say they'll be worse off.

Former TWA flight attendant Sherry Cooper was one of five APFA board members who voted against the proposal. She says the union failed to fight for St. Louis employees.

"It'll mean the elimination of the TWA flight attendants in [their] entirety, which is about 1800 flight attendants," Cooper said. "To make matters worse, they're also taking away any severance pay."

Cooper is suing both the APFA and American Airlines.

The new agreement shortens the contract length and allows some employee bonuses.
