Missouri House Endorses Bill to Ban Junk E-mail

By AP/KWMU

Jefferson City, MO – The Missouri House has given initial
approval to a bill that supporters say would cut down on junk e-mail, also known as spam.

People would be able to place their e-mail addresses on a state list. Businesses couldn't send e-mail to the addesses, or they would face a $5,000 fine.

The sponsor, House member David Pearce of Warrensburg, says the bill is modeled after the no-call tele-marketer list.

The bill would also require all advertising e-mails to use the letters ADV in the subject line. It also would have pornographic e-mails put a XXX in the subject line.

The bill needs final House approval before it can move to the Senate.
