St. Louis, MO – The St. Louis Board of Aldermen will vote Friday whether to sell America's Center downtown. The deal could give the city up to $20 million.
The city's Ways and Means Committee heard a presentation yesterday by Comptroller Darlene Green's office to hire PaineWebber to help the city find a buyer for the convention and exhibition complex.
The deal does not include the Edward Jones Dome.
Green says the money would help the city avoid layoffs and budget cuts next year. Mayor Francis Slay supports the agreement
but says the city could hire a firm at a lower price.
PaineWebber was the highest of five bidders, but says it will lower its fees to become more comparable to those of other bidders.
