St. Louis – The Missouri Senate has taken another step toward removing former Cardinals slugger Mark McGwire's name from a stretch of Interstate 70.
Senators voted unanimously Monday to rename the section of freeway the Mark Twain Highway.
Several miles of I-70 were named for McGwire in 1999, a year after he hit a record 70 home runs.
In January, McGwire admitted using steroids while a player. Now he works as a hitting coach for the Cardinals.
State Sen. Ryan McKenna of Crystal City has said it's inappropriate to honor someone who "left a black mark" on baseball.
