Two charged in Steak n Shake killings

By AP/KWMU

St. Louis, MO. – Two brothers have been charged with the murders of a waitress and cook at St. Louis County Steak n Shake.

Twenty-year-old Anthony Akins Jr. and 19-year old Oundr'e Akins are charged with first-degree murder, robbery, and armed criminal action.

Both live with their parents in Cahokia, Illinois.

St. Louis County prosecutor Robert McCulloch says county police worked round the clock to pinpoint the suspects.

"They followed up on everything they could by talking with patrol officers in the area and anyone else they could find who might have been in the area at the time," McCulloch said. "With the assistance of the restaurant checking various records, they were able to pull everything together and that led them to the Akins brothers."

Both brothers had worked at the Steak n Shake until about six months ago.

44-year old waitress, Tammy Cantrell, and 24-year-old cook, Mark Gerstner, were found dead early Monday at the restaurant.

Prosecutors say the suspects allegedly got about $200 from the robbery.
