St. Louis, MO – Kelvin Adams, the new superintendent of St. Louis Public Schools signed a three-year contract Friday.
His yearly salary is $225,000.
Considering the revolving door of superintendents in recent times, believing that Kelvin Adams will still be in St. Louis in three years time is a hard sell.
Still, barring any health emergencies, he says he's not going anywhere quick.
"Illness or death, those are the only things that will separate me from the three-year commitment," says Adams
SAB board member Melanie Adams chaired the superintendent search committee. She says because of the SAB's administrative authority, Mr. Adams role will be slightly different than a traditional superintendent.
"This person really has to be able to work with a group that otherwise would be seen as meddling if were a traditional board, but because of the administrative part of our title, that's why we function the way we do."
In addition to his salary Adams will receive bonuses if he hits certain targets for the number of schools meeting "Adequate Yearly Progress/AYP".
He is replacing outgoing superintendent Diana Bourisaw, who opted to quit last June rather than apply for her own job.
Adams' first day on the job as superintendent will be Monday, October 20th.
