St. Louis – Transportation officials are urging drivers to avoid Hanley Road at Interstate 64 this week.
The Hanley overpass will be down to one lane in each direction Tuesday, Wednesday, and possibly Thursday.
Gateway Constructors spokesman Dan Galvin said workers will replace the bridge next year as part of the freeway overhaul, but he said the road needs to be kept safe for drivers until then.
"In 2009, it'll come down completely, but we want to be able to keep it operational until that point," Galvin said. "It's just too busy a road for us to let it deteriorate any further."
Galvin said drivers should use Brentwood Blvd. or Big Bend Rd. during the resurfacing project.
