Jefferson City, MO – The director of Missouri's Department of Social Services has resigned.
Governor Holden says he has accepted the resignation of Kathy Martin, just one week after Holden announced a reorganization of the department.
A recent investigation, prompted by the death of a two-year-old foster child in Springfield, found a "complete breakdown" in Missouri's child welfare system.
Holden issued only a brief statement about Martin's resignation and did not give a reason. He appointed deputy director
Steve Renne to serve as the acting director.
