Rams Fans Rally Against Rumored Team Move

A group of St. Louis Rams fans rallied at Laclede’s Landing Saturday, calling on the city to do what it takes to keep the football team in St. Louis.

After the 2014 season, the Rams’ lease with the Edward Jones Dome will end and switch to a year-by-year lease unless expensive renovations are made. Negotiations continue behind the scenes to determine the extent of renovations and who will pay for them.

Gary Weed is one of the organizers of the group “Keep the Rams in St. Louis.” He says this event and others throughout the season will demonstrate the fans’ love for the team here.

“It’s going to be a big thing, I think,” Weed said. “It’s going to show the civic pride - the same civic pride the city shows to the Cardinals and to the Blues.”

Rams owner Stan Kroenke recently purchased a large tract of land in Los Angeles, which lacks an NFL team, but he would face significant hurdles before bringing the Rams to L.A.

Rams fan Allison Hasting of St. Charles says she’d be heartbroken if the Rams left.

“I just hope they understand [they have] love and support,” Hasting said. “They should stay here. Because there’s nothing better than St. Louis, and add football to it, it’s just a win-win combination.”

Former Rams player Michael Jones also attended the rally, congratulating fans on their support.
