ST. LOUIS – Democratic U.S. Rep. Russ Carnahan is dismissing claims of voting irregularity in St. Louis by his Republican challenger, and says he is ready to get to work now that the election is over.
Republican Ed Martin says Tuesday's race in Missouri's 3rd District remains too close to call, and he is questioning whether votes were counted fairly in the race he narrowly lost.
Martin plans to speak to reporters Wednesday afternoon.
Carnahan's campaign says Missouri law does not allow Martin to request a vote recount because Carnahan won by a 2-percent margin. The campaign says only elections with a 1 percent or tighter margin are eligible for a recount.
