St. Louis – St. Louis County Prosecutor Bob McCulloch says he will seek the death penalty against man suspected of killing a suburban St. Louis police officer.
Todd Shepard has been charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the shooting death of Sgt. Michael King on Halloween 2008. Shepard will face trial in November.
King was shot and killed while sitting in his patrol car in a lot near the University City Loop. Authorities say the shooting appeared to be random because they could find no previous contact between Shepard and King.
On Thursday, Shepard was sentenced to nearly 23 years in federal prison on an unrelated drug charge
