Alton High School band director charged with sex crimes

Alton, Ill. – The band director at Alton high school is accused of having sex with a 16-year-old student.

On Thursday Madison County prosecutors charged Matthew Lang, 36, with criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Sheriff's deputies said they began investigating Tuesday after hearing Lang might have had an inappropriate relationship with the student.

Authorities said they later confirmed Lang had sex with the student more than once at school during school hours. Lang is jailed on a $250,000 bond.

He was hired two years ago to replace another band director who pleaded guilty to inappropriately touching a female student.
