Options limited for last-minute tax filers

By Maria Altman, KWMU

St. Louis – Today is the last day to file federal tax returns, and post offices in St. Louis will be open during their normal business hours only.

The Main Post office downtown closes at 8 p.m. as usual, but employees will work curbside along Market Street until midnight to pick up returns.

St. Louis Post Office spokeswoman Valerie Hughes said it's best to mail the returns early in the day on Wednesday.

"You need to have the correct postage on your envelope already and people on the street will be collecting those returns for cancellation," Hughes said.

Hughes said the most common mistakes when mailing returns are not enough postage and incorrect IRS mailing addresses.
