St. Louis, MO – The fate of the Chrysler plant in Fenton is still up in the air following the release of a restructuring plan unveiled Tuesday by the beleaguered automaker.
Chrysler announced that it will need another $5 billion in government money to survive the recession. The company received $4 billion in September. It will cut another 3000 jobs and eliminate three models.
Workers at the Chrysler North plant make the Dodge Ram pickup truck. The plant has been operating just one shift since early September. The Chrysler South plant, which made the Dodge Caravan, stopped production in October.
Meantime, GM's survival plan calls for cutting a total of 47,000 jobs globally and closing five more U.S. factories. It's uncertain whether GM's Wentzville plant is one of those targeted for closure.
