St. Louis, MO – The Normandy School District has announced plans to lay off nearly eight percent of its workforce.
Forty-five teachers and nearly 40 other support staffers will be laid off February 27th. The cuts will allow the district to save $1.6 million before its fiscal year ends June 30th. ,p> Graylon Brown is a Missouri National Education Association coordinator for a region that includes Normandy.
"According to the superintendent, student-teacher ratios will be balanced, and the delivery of educational services will continue," he said. "We believe that it would be better served if we don't do that during the current school year."
District officials blame a 15 percent drop in enrollment over the last four years for the cuts. It has about 4800 students
