St. Louis – Today is Election Day in Missouri. City Council and school board elections dominate the ballots in the St. Louis area.
There are mayoral races in Berkeley, Cool Valley, Sunset Hills, St. George, Wentzville, and Valley Park.
And in Kirkwood, where a shooter killed two policemen and three city officials in February, residents are also heading to the polls.
Some had argued the election be postponed in light of the February 7 shootings.
Council member Connie Karr, who was a candidate for Mayor, was among those killed. But city officials said state election law wouldn't allow a delay. So voters will see just one mayoral candidate's name on the ballot, Art McDonnell.
However there are also three write-in candidates for mayor: Milad Abou-Nader, Dan Cressey and Michael Moore.
Cressy has said that he'll resign immediately if elected to allow for a special election at a later date.
There are also six individuals vying for three spots on the Kirkwood City Council.
Elsewhere in the region, residents of O'Fallon, Missouri and Franklin County will decide whether to form charter commissions.
Setting up such a commission is the first step toward overhauling the structure of local government.
In O'Fallon, a charter would give local officials more control of the city.
In Franklin county it would mean the three-member county commission would be replaced by a council similar to the one in St. Louis County.
