St. Louis – A federal grand jury has indicted a Kirksville man for allegedly mailing threatening letters.
33-year old Lonnie Sutton turned himself in Tuesday. Sutton is accused of sending six threatening letters to various people between January 2003 and March 2007.
U.S. Attorney Catherine Hanaway said his possible targets included school kids.
"In January of 2003 Mr. Sutton sent a letter threatening to harm school children, and the threat was specifically 'school kids make nice targets. I think I shall wipe out a school bus some morning.'"
Authorities say Sutton also sent a letter to a circuit court judge and the Kirksville Police Department.
The FBI was involved in the investigation.
Sutton could face up to five years in prison and up to $250,000 in fines on each of six counts.
