St. Louis, MO. – The only formal vice presidential debate will take place at Washington University next year.
The Commission on Presidential Debates selected the private university as a debate host for the fifth time in a row.
It will take place on October 2nd of next year in the university's field house.
Chancellor Mark Wrighton says debates on this level take a huge commitment.
"Fortunately for us we've had recent experiences in 2000 and 2004," Wrighton said. "We have a great facility and a great team. I'm confident we can do a great job, and apparently the Commission on Presidential Debates agrees."
Washington University also held a presidential debate in 1992. It was selected in 1996, as well, but that debate was cancelled due to a dispute among candidates.
The three presidential debates will take place at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn., and Hofstra University on Long Island, New York.
