St. Louis – A tentative contract between Chrysler and the United Auto Workers is raising some concerns about the future of the automaker's two plants in Fenton.
An article in Tuesday's New York Times singled out the Fenton South Plant, which manufactures minivans, as possibly slated for closure.
If true, Fenton Mayor Dennis Hancock says that's the first he's heard of it.
"This whole notion that the south plant may be in trouble because of a line that someone put in a New York Times article, it struck me as odd because when I read the summary of points I didn't read that the south plant was in any kind of danger" Hancock said.
A summary of the contract agreement lists future products for just seven of 21 Chrysler factories, though it cites plans to close only three. Fenton not on the closure list.
Union leaders approved the contract Monday. Union members will vote on it Thursday.
