St. Louis, MO. – Acting St. Louis Fire Department chief Steve Kotraba has promoted 28 firefighters to captains as promised.
Ceremonies for the new captains were held Wednesday and Thursday.
Kotraba promoted five captains to battalion chiefs Tuesday.
The slew of promotions came after St. Louis Public Safety Director Charles Bryson demoted Fire Chief Sherman George following his refusal to promote based on a 2004 test.
Bryson says the promotions are finally done.
"I just think it's a great day that we can finally get this behind us and move on to other things related to the fire department," Bryson said.
Bryson also said two captains who attended a meeting in support of George while in uniform violated department policy.
He says supervisors reminded the captains of the policy, but there was no disciplinary action.
