Carbondale, Ill. – The president of Southern Illinois University Glenn Poshard says he didn't plagiarize his doctoral dissertation.
Poshard disputes claims that he lifted entire sections from original works without attributing them for his 1984 paper. He made the comments to SIU's student newspaper, The Daily Egyptian.
The newspaper analyzed Poshard's 111-page paper and reports that it found about 30 sections that weren't attributed to their original works or weren't put in quotations.
Poshard, a former Illinois congressman and a one-time Democratic candidate for governor, says he could have forgotten to properly cite sections, but he didn't plagiarize.
The university's board of trustees plans to meet with Poshard to discuss the allegations, but the chairman of SIU's board of trustees says that panel is standing with Glenn Poshard.
Roger Tedrick says the board has been aware of the claims and doesn't believe the case involves plagiarism.
