St. Louis, MO – Missouri Governor Matt Blunt has temporarily withdrawn the appointments of Rick Sullivan to the St. Louis Schools Special Advisory Board, and Derio Gambaro to the State Board of Education.
In both cases, Rick Sullivan and Derio Gambaro were able to begin their respective duties since Governor Blunt appointed them while the General Assembly was in recess.
According to rules, the General Assembly has 30 days to confirm those appointments once back in session including for instance the most recent special session .
The Democratic Minority Party asked Blunt to withdraw the two controversial nominations so that the Senate can take up the matter during the regular session in January.
Sources say Blunt is likely to re-nominate both candidates. The district on Friday released a statement reiterating its belief that Sullivan was still in his position, even though Blunt had withdrawn the nomination.
In both cases confirmation depends on a sponsorship from district senators in this case, St. Louis's Joan Bray and Jeff Smith.
