Jefferson City, MO – Work crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation have finished inspecting a major bridge over the Lake of the Ozarks, while work continues on a second bridge and begins on a third.
Other than normal wear and tear, no structural problems were found on the Hurricane Deck Bridge, which is similar in design to the bridge that collapsed last week in Minneapolis.
MODOT spokesman Jeff Briggs says workers are still inspecting the Washington Bridge over the Missouri River.
"We're about halfway through with that one," he said. "We're going to keep looking at that one for a couple of more days - that's the one that takes longer, because the truss is above the deck rather than below it."
The crew that examined the Hurricane Deck Bridge is scheduled today (Wednesday) to begin inspecting the Miami Bridge near Marshall. In all, 14 bridges are to be inspected in the coming weeks. MODOT will ask Illinois, Kansas, and Nebraska to inspect 3 of the 14.
