ST. LOUIS, MO (2007-07-23) Edward Jones will still expand its headquarters at Manchester and Ballas roads, thanks to a deal with the city of Des Peres announced this (Mon.) morning. However, the expansion will be smaller than first planned, which means Edward Jones will only create about 800 new jobs, compared to the original 1,000.

Des Peres had balked at the company's plans, citing traffic concerns.

The changes include Edward Jones constructing a 23% smaller addition to its headquarters building.

The company will also build a smaller parking garage; the garage will now only rise four stories above ground and one story below. The original plan was for a six-story garage above ground. The garage will also be set back farther from Ballas Road.

The entrance will also be reconfigured to address traffic concerns.

"We're happy to have reached this compromise with the City of Des Peres that will allow this important development project to move forward," said Jim Weddle, Edward Jones managing partner, in a statement. "This addition will allow us to add jobs and expand our business so we can serve a growing number of clients."

Des Peres aldermen are expected to approve the new plan Aug. 13, which would allow construction to begin early next year and be complete by mid-2009.
