Alto Pass, Ill. – A group in southern Illinois has created a new religious nonprofit, with the hope of raising enough money to save the well-known Bald Knob Cross and its visitor center.
The 111-foot tall cross towers over the southern Illinois landscape in the town of Alto Pass, just south of Carbondale.
The group also wants to raise $125,000 to settle a debt with a visitor center that sits near the structure.
But the group, Friends of the Cross, has so far only raised $3,800, about 1% of what they need to repair the cross.
