Jefferson City, MO – It will likely take a few more days to fully assess the amount of crop damage in Missouri caused by freezing temperatures over the Easter weekend.
Senator Wes Shoemeyer (D-Clarence) owns and operates a family farm. He says he's not sure the State Senate can do anything to help at this point.
"I don't really forsee what we in the state, on our farm, can do that the federal government probably doesn't have plans for," Schoemeyer said Tuesday. "We may have to ask the governor to declare some places a disaster area, but other than that, the administration can do that."
But Republican Dan Clemens of Marshfield, who chairs the Senate Agriculture Committee, leaves open the possibility of some type of legislative action. He says they'll have to wait for more damage assessments to come in first.
