New rules limit booze on two popular rivers

By Maria Hickey, KWMU

St. Louis, MO – People who want to party on Missouri's scenic riverways could be up a creek this summer.

The Ozark National Scenic Riverways park system has enacted new regulations banning beer bongs, kegs, and jello shots. The libations are probably best associated with float trips.

The new rules apply to the Current and Jacks Fork Rivers in southern Missouri.

""Unfortunately, the park has developed into a party atmosphere that we're trying to change," said superintendent Noel Poe.

Poe says the National Park Service will work with state and local officials to monitor the rivers.

The riverways attract more than one million visitors a year.
