East St. Louis, Ill. – An East St. Louis man who escaped from a minimum-security work camp in southern Illinois in 2005 has been sentenced to a year in prison.
Lawrence Barnett, 38, and another inmate left the federal prison camp in Marion on foot in October of 2005. Both were arrested two miles away the same day.
Barnett pleaded guilty in October and was sentenced last week in U.S. District Court in Benton.

At the time, Barnett was serving a more-than-seven-year sentence for distributing crack cocaine, and Walker was serving a 12-year sentence out of Missouri for conspiring to distribute crack cocaine.
Walker was sentenced last month to 37 months in prison for the escape.
