St. Louis, MO. – The Missouri State Emergency Management Agency estimates the ice storm which blasted Missouri earlier this month caused $103 million in damage.
These preliminary figures refer only to costs incurred by public agencies such as local governments, fire departments, and utility co-ops.
Alan Prenger is a Disaster Section Manager for the State.
Prenger says the Federal Emergency Management Agency will ultimately determine how much relief money will flow to Missouri.
"That will be based on what FEMA actually finds when they sit down with each individual applicant and write their project worksheet, and the documentation they provide on those damages because some of the things they include in the estimate may or may not be eligible," Prenger said. "We have to see the documentation to make that determination."
The $103 million figure does not include damage to private property or for-profit companies such as Ameren.
A separate tally of those costs is expected to be released later this week.
